ok so i can't knock this band, i can't type four paragraphs about how their fans annoy me. they're from my state and i've never seen them live yet i own all their records, one in multiple copies.

if there were post-rock power rankings this band would've been top 5 before this album, i have a feeling that they didn't do anything so silly on this album that it would bump them out of it.

this rip will do for now. a band like this deserves a better recording, i'm not gonna download this i'm not gonna listen to this until theres a better recording

4 japanese women over come the shame and anger their husbands no doubt placed

fucking awful culture after the 15th century
something weird about the sex practices in countries that lose major wars, germany and japan have the creepiest most awful porn in the world, i think it comes from the shame of failure. what the fuck am i talking about?

why even start a blog? who am i to tell you guys what i think you should listen to. the whole idea of a blog in the first place is just completely sociopathic. its like you guys are lost in the woods and i'm the navajo who can help navigate you guys back to safety.

the fact there are a thousand of these stupid blogs makes me wonder how many people read what i even type. i just typed two reviews/summaries whatever the fuck these stupid things are theres nothing i can type to really hype this band to you as a reader why do i feel like i have to sell music to you people?

back to the stupid description of whatever this music is. i get to add a new label tag for this post, psych pop. so women take a softer feminine (get it because they have stupid pussies)attempt at post-rock. with nice harmonized vocals in a language you can't understand but they're probably singing about modifying nissans or dressing like an anime character and giggling or whatever fucking creeps.

i really like this album. i think this is one of those albums that people will look over now and eventually be unearthed as a gem.

Expedición a Las Estrellas - 27 (2009)

french lads take a stab at connecting heavy piano atmospheric post rock with ambient doomy black post metal...seriously how fucking sick of music are you? jesus fucking christ did you just read what i typed? i'm not even gonna subject you poor guys to what the fuck it says on lastfm but the term "duality" and "balance" referring to "melancholy and anger" i seriously cannot stand music reviews.

can someone do something different? at this point i wanna hear a new sound and its getting to the point where i'd be willing to suck it out of a fucking pigs dick just to hear it. how many cross overs between doom sludge black atmospheric metal can the world stand? its getting to the point where i actually curse swan and neurosis and all the kids who stopped listening to converge and started writing 14 minute fucking songs that are either good or do a really good job of sounding good, or in a storm of light's case they fucking suck shit through shit straws.

i didn't listen to this long enough to really get a grasp of it but what i heard really pissed me off. is this good? it sounds like fucking swallowthesuneurosisisinthesky piano intros into the drudge riffs into the build up into the who gives a shit

i haven't even listened to the whole thing but i guarantee theres an all piano song with no vocals. this could be the best crossover album ever made in these genres. OR its another album from here you'll download from here add to your itunes and skip over them when you listen to much better music from much better bands, later you'll play a song of theres when you specifically see their name on itunes and half way through their second song you'll put something else on. in a couple months you'll delete this album. orrrrrrrrr you won't.

either way who gives a shit its only 113mbs of space and 72 minutes(SEVENTY TWO FUCKING MINUTES OF THIS HORSE SHIT?!?!/!/!1!!/1) of music. if i were you i'd just watch uncle buck, a much better thing to do with 72 minutes of time.

I've posted the score to The Trial before, but only recently have I been able to acquire a digital rip that was better than my own homemade VHS-rip. This film came and went back in '93 and its a damn shame its never been picked up by Eureka or Criterion since then. It is one of the most faithful adaptations of any work and it really pains me that it is so forgotten. Wonderful score, terrific acting, and it remains the one & only time i've ever seen Dale 'Atreides' Cooper completely without a trump card.

Nicole Atkins - Neptune City (2007)

sad poppy vocals with a beautiful voice from music that sounds from the 40s-60s with updated lyrical themes from a gorgeous girl (or a girl who's voice is so pretty you instantly think she's hot)who sings about getting bottomed out in her pussy and makes it sound like heaven, with a big band sound behind her at times and on other songs it sounds like sonic youth. Beautiful music with way prettier voice behind it. She describes the music as "pop noir" which to me is the most perfect made up stupid name for music by some stupid musician ever.

its funny how that works out, i instantly think the girl from denali and 27 are gorgeous just because they sing great music, maybe if i walked by them on the street i'd be like "eh" but whatever girls can fuck drummers from jerk off bands let me have this moment.

before you delete it listen to "together we're both alone" and "maybe tonight". let me know if you guys like this i'll upload her ep. i wanna cave this girls pussy in so bad i can't think straight right now. maybe she just sounds like sherryl crow or something but i think there is alot more there.

YOB - The Great Cessation

Playing in a band isn't supposed to be pretty or fair, but what happened to Middian was about as dogshit awful as it gets. Mike Scheidt's post-YOB project had every indication of surpassing YOB's already awe-inspiring output (and this, mind you, I base on “Dreamless Eye” alone), and then some do-nothing, go-nowhere band from – well, who the fuck cares, really? - hits them with a cease and desist order due to a trademarked name. If you can barely break even on tour, how are you going to pay for legal fees? The short answer is “You can't,” so Middian hung it up.

That would have been a completely disastrous turn of events had Scheidt not resurrected YOB. And, judging by the anguished roar that he lets loose at two minutes and 23 seconds into lead track “Burning the Altar,” he also channeled the rage and pent-up aggression of the Middian experience into The Great Cessation. Doom – be it traditional, crust, funeral, psychedelic, or whatever other sub-sub-genre's out there - is meant to be dour and slow, but here it's also furious. The riffs, the vocals, the deliberate, pummeling rhythm (courtesy of YOB alumni Travis Foster on drums and new bassist Aaron Reiseberg) – the song's a clenched fist. It seethes from start to finish, and as a statement of intent for The Great Cessation, you can't get any better.

You can, however, find equally strong songs. “The Lie That Is Sin” has more forward momentum – it's on par with “Dreamless Eye” or The Unreal Never Lived's “Quantum Mystic,” tempo-wise – and offers a strong vocal hook. The way Scheidt lets his clean croon plummet to the death growl, following that with some melodic, psychedelic guitar work, makes for multi-dimensional heaviness. That's sort of textbook YOB – they've got a knack for wresting as many dynamics out of their songs as possible – but it's taken to a new level here. The howls at the beginning of “Silence of Heaven” I'm ambivalent about, but otherwise its minimalistic, almost Sunn0)))-like approach serves as a crushing, effective interlude between “The Lie That Is Sin” and “Breathing from the Shallows,” another wall of doom that slices through you with some incendiary playing.

As with the YOB efforts in the past, there's one song where they lay it all out on the table and stretch out for 20-plus minutes. Here it's the title track and it's truly an epic. “The Great Cessation” starts off quietly, almost like a lament, then opens up with a beautiful riff that, if you'll forgive one more bit of grandiose writing, reaches up to the heavens from some darkened pit. It's as hopeful as it is hopeless and ends the album on as strong a note as it started. Listen, any band worth its salt can write a song that elicits an emotional response, but few can craft one that's so complex and multifaceted. That's one of the many reasons YOB's so far ahead of the curve not just in the doom genre, but as musicians in general.

Middian's death was unfortunate, but if that band had to cease in order for YOB to be reborn, I can't mourn its passing. The Great Cessation is a masterpiece and sets the bar so ridiculously high, it's not even worth comparing other doom albums to it. Highly recommended.

Rare three disc album from this great Danish artist which chronicles the journey from the Hobbit all the way to the end of Lord of the Rings. It is NOT like alot of other such albums which were half-assed attempts to cash in on the Tolkien craze upon Jackson's movies being released. Musically this is wonderfully thought out instrumental tunes with lots of harp and other instruments which are very evocative of elvish tunes. Lots of folk in this but its not that kind of folk.

Comics - I Kill Giants, Marvels and Ruins

I've decided to go with some other comics (ones I can up all at once) this time that I've recently enjoyed. First up is a little comic I found called I Kill Giants. It's about a kid who's imagination takes over when life's bullshit is a little too much. Finished it today and really enjoyed it. The first two issues are a little rocky both for the story and art but by the third issue they really hit their stride so a small degree of patience is required.

dl

Next is kind of a combo. This part is Marvels written by Kurt Busiek with really amazing art from Alex Ross. This short series kind of captured the atmosphere around the emergence of the "superheroe" and "supervillain" as told from the perspective of a journalist. The next comic I upload is both a counterpart and it's complete opposite. This one is full of hope and wonder. The next well, you'll see.

dl

This three issue comic does what Marvels does but substitutes the hope and wonder for gritty, almost hyper, realism and a large dose of cynicism and black humor. It's written by none other than Warren Ellis (remember him? he wrote Transmetropolitan). I actually read this before Marvels, not really knowing that it was Ellis poking fun at the whole Marvel universe. Not only does he poke fun, but he completely destroys it. And you know what? It's fucking great.

Also to my surprise the versions of Murderer and Silver Rider are different than what ended up on The Great Destroyer and Drums and Guns. They might be possibly better I haven't decided yet. They are certainly more smokey and bedroom-y so you decide.

Sun Tornado - Mind's Common Beach

From the ashes of one of Pittsburgh's finest bands, Io (posted them a while ago), a few bands rose up. Sun Tornado is one of them. Mike, or whatever the name of Io's more prominent guitarist is, started this up as a more experimental rather than experimetal project to see where the mind could wander, and how big its imagination could get. Like most improv bands, they tend to start off slow and work towards a big bang of some kind or another, but they employ enough exceptions to that (overplayed) rule to keep my head swimming in Lake Gnarly. There's a good amount of noise experimentation, ample grooves, some progressions that could be right out of the Fugazi handbook, charming lo-fi production values; all in all, they picked their name well, as it definitely describes the kind of swirling, quasi-unidentifiable sonic waves they produce.
